Title: The birds of Cuba.
Description: Cambridge, MA, Nutall Ornithological Club, 1923. 4to (28.0 x 22.5 cm). 141 pp.; four tinted phototype plates (tissue-guarded). Original green buckram with gilt title on the spine. = First edition, published as the Club's Memoirs, No. VI. Very uncommon, and rare outside North America. Written by the American herpetologist and ornithologist Thomas Barbour (1884-1946) who, from 1927 until 1946, was director of the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology. An annotated list of species, with historical, topographical, and distribution data. The plates show landscapes/habitats. Former owner's name Karl P. Schmidt, handwritten on front free endpaper recto, and dated June 28, 1923, thus in the month of publication. This is the American herpetologist Karl Patterson Schmidt (1890-1957). On front pastedown the handwritten name P. Brodkorb, i.e. the American ornithologist and paleontologist William Pierce Brodkorb (1908-1992). Slight wear to edges; upper corners slightly bumped, otherwise a fine copy with a very fresh interior. Zimmer, p. 39. Notin Nissen IVB.
