Original green cloth with gilt title on spine and gilt bird vignette on front board, two with dustjacket. = Good copies of this classic monograph on the birds of eastern Africa and the Gulf of Aden, including Yemen and the Island of Socotra. Also useful in adjacent countries and regions. Each volume has a unique, typed new index of bird species. Some pencil notes in the text. Volume I in transparent sleeve; and with armorial bookplate of E. Lort-Phillips "Animo et Fide", and old inscription ("Christmas 1937") to the British botanist Louisa [Jane Forbes Gunnis] Lort-Phillips (d. 1946) on the front free endpaper recto. Her husband named two bird species after her. Volumes 1 and 2 are much rarer than the others.
