Title: Comic Strips.
Description: Kansas City, Missouri: Humoristic Publishing Company, c. 1880s, 0. Soft cover. Folio. 60 hand-colored lithographs. Printed and hand-colored in France for the Humoristic Publishing Company of Kansas City, Missouri by Jean-Charles Perrin's Imagerie d'Epinal printing house, founded in 1796. The earliest printed comic strips in the US (it predates 'The Yellow Kid' which made its first appearance on February 16, 1896 in the Hearst New York American), they presage the format used by Hal Foster in his Prince Valiant strips by some fifty years, and are the forefunners of the modern-day comic book. In a green cloth box. A few leaves have been repaired, and there is the slightest fraying to the edges of a few leaves. Extremely difficult to find a complete set. Most, if not all, leaves have been silked. Good.
