Contemporary mottled calf, repaired. Hoefer X, 14-5; not in Cioranescu. From the library of Ann Jane Abercorn, with her armorial bookplate. At the top of the title-page to Part I, the original owner has written: Given to me by Him in 1800 before we were married. Him refers to John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Abercorn. Lady Anne Jane Gore was his third wife, whom he married on 3 April 1800. He married, firstly, Catherine Copley, and secondly, his first cousin, Lady Cecil Hamilton, from whom he was divorced in 1799 by an Act of Parliament. Good.
