William Harrison Ainsworth was an English historical novelist born in Manchester. Though he intended to enter the field of law, he soon became involved in literary circles, and turned his hand to publishing and eventually writing. His first success was in 1834 with the publication of Rookwood. He was very popular and prolific author whose novels sold in large numbers. In total Ainsworth published over thirty-five novels. Complete in three volumes. In original cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines. Externally, light rubbing and bumping, with light shelfwear, and fading to the spines. Library bookplate to the front board of volume two. Ink signature to the front pastedown. Library bookplate to the front pastedown to volume one. All hinges are slightly strained. Internally, generally, firmly bound, with some leaves working loose. Bright and generally clean, with the odd spot and handling mark. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
