Description: Oxford, Oxford University Press, 1892. Leather. A scarce edition of the Holy Bible featuring both the old and new testament. Originally published for the society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Extended title reads "Translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised, by His Majesty's special command." With gilt inscription to the front board which reads "The Gift of Mr Edward Martin to the Parish of Bermondsey, 1645. The Rev. Gerard Duke Wyatt, Rector, Henry Geth Allsworth, Henry Harbord, James Aley Shad, John Francis Tee." Bound in crushed morocco with gilt lettering to the spine and front board, and brass clasp. Externally, slight rubbing to extremities and spine. Both hinges are strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, bright and generally clean, aside from light spotting to endpapers and title page. Tape repairs to pages 350-352, slightly affecting text. Good . Ill.: None.
