Description: Edinburgh, Printed by the Heirs and Successors to Andrew Anderson, 1707. First edition. Leather. A scarce first edition of The Privileges of the Royal Burrows by William Black. Bound in leather. First Edition. Uncommon. With an armorial nameplate on the front pastedown for Daniel Fisber. William Black, d.1745, was probably Scottish, and possibly the owner of a cloth manufacturer near Aberdeen. This William Black, advocate, petitioned parliament to make a charge upon the county of Aberdeen, for the support of boys working at his manufacturer, during the first five years of their apprenticeships. The petition apparently succeeded. In a full calf binding. There is significant wear to the extremities, including significant bumping and rubbing, with loss to the leather on the spine. The front board is detached. The rear hinge is starting. Internally, firmly bound. Internally the pages have some browning, and scattered spotting. There is a browned watermark to the bottom of the page from the title page to page 80 of the text, and a small section missing from the edge of the 26th page of the Appendix. Fair . Ill.: None.
