Anon - Coridon&Apos;S Song and Other Verses

Title: Coridon&Apos;S Song and Other Verses
Description: London , Macmillan & Co. 1894. Cloth. A limited edition late 19th century collection of light-hearted poetry, illustrated by Hugh Thomson and with an introduction by Austin Dobson As part of the first edition, one hundred and fifty copies of this large paper edition were printed. The poetry consists of short vignettes, often on country characters or pursuits. 'Coridon' is a reference to a stock character of ancient pastoral poetry; characters of that name appear in both Theocritus, and of course the Eclogues of Virgil. Hugh Thompson's style reflected the nostalgia of the time, his fine line drawing of rural characters and gentle countrified society appealing to the imagination of the public. He worked on two books for his friend the poet Austin Dobson, The Ballad of Beau Brocade (1892) and The Story of Rosina (1895). This collection represents a further collaboration. Though it is unclear, the author is most likely Dobson Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. In the original cloth with a spine label. Externally excellent, with just a little fading towards the edges of the boards and to the spine. With a shelf label to the front pastedown. The text block is untrimmed but the edges remain reasonably clean. The pastedowns and endpapers are lightly foxed, but internally clean and bright throughout, and firmly bound. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine .
