With an ink inscription to front free endpaper 'To Alban Dobson With Best Wishes from F. Anstey Dec. 1927' and a further note on headed paper from the author to Dobson tipped in to front free endpaper. Thomas Anstey Guthrie (1856 - 1934) was an English novelist and journalist, who wrote his comic novels under the pseudonym F. Anstey. Guthrie became an important member of the staff of Punch magazine, in which his voces populi and his humorous parodies of a reciter's stock-piece represent his best work. In 1901, his successful farce The Man from Blankley's, based on a story that originally appeared in Punch, was first produced at the Prince of Wales Theatre, in London. In a cloth binding with unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, in excellent condition with only minor bumping to head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper has slight edgewear, marginal age toning and handling marks. Internally, generally firmly bound. Bright but with slight scattered foxing, in particular to text block edges and endpapers and with offsetting to endpapers. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good/Very Good.
