Joseph Addison - Days with Sir Roger de Coverley

Title: Days with Sir Roger de Coverley
Description: London, Macmillan, 1886. Cloth. An illustrated edition of this collection of stories about the character, Roger de Coverley. An English squire of Queen Anne's reign, Sir Roger exemplified the values of an old country gentleman, and was portrayed as lovable but somewhat ridiculous ('rather beloved than esteemed') (Spectator no. 2), making his Tory politics seem harmless but silly. Some marks to the boards and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Ink signatures to half-titles. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of foxing throughout. Good . Ill.: Hugh Thomson. Good .
