The works of Antonio Canova, an Italian Neoclassical sculptor, famous for his marble sculptures. Often regarded as the greatest of the Neoclassical artists, his sculpture was inspired by the Baroque and the classical revival. Written by Count Leopoldo Cicognara, was an Italian artist, art collector, art historian and bibliophile, and Countess Isabella Albrizzi, a Greek-Venetian writer and salonist. Volume one includes a letter from Countess Albrizzi, a biographical memoir of Canova's life, and the statues and groups he produced. Volume two contains images of busts, monuments, and bas reliefs. Volume three contains a supplementary notice to the biographical memoir with Canova's thoughts on the arts. Engravings by Henry Moses, an English engraver. In the original quarter calf with brown cloth boards. Externally, very smart with bumping to the extremities and light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound.
