The scarce second edition, corrected and improved. Published in the year after the first edition. In a full calf binding with elaborate gilt detail. Complete with a folding map of England and Wales. A detailed history of Great Britain, from the invasion of Julius Caesar, to the dawn of the nineteenth century when this work was published. This work was intended as an educational text for young people, including instructive information and moral lessons. The title page reads, "Now First Adapted to the Capacities of Young People of Both Sexes". By the Rev. John Adams, a Scottish compiler of educational books for young people. With one page of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book, alongside an advertisement for the present edition at the front of the volume. With the previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank, reading, 'The gift of William Tindall, to his Godson, Henry Hordern, 1804&apos. With a bookplate for one, 'Egerton Parker', to the front paste-down. In a full calf binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with rubbing to the extremities. Cracks to the front joint. Small amount of leather is loosening at the top of the spine, and could become detached. Marks to the spine. Light marks to the boards. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean. Previous owner's gift inscription to the front blank. The odd handling mark throughout. Folding map is age-toned with the odd spot.
