Interesting complete report of the 1794 Treason Trials of Thomas Hardy, John Horne Tooke, and John Thelwall, the first edition. The first edition of this sought after account of the 1796 Treason Trials, which were intended to cripple the radical movement of the 1790s. While over a dozen radicals were arrested, Thomas Hardy, John Horne Took, and John Thelwall were on trial for high treason. They were all acquitted by three separate juries in a repudiation of the government's policies. ESTC N46576. With three separate pagination variants not matching those mentioned on ESTC. Bound with one frontispiece of Thomas Hardy only. All title pages present. All concluding on 'Finis' leaf. With singular leaf of advertisement to p. 3. Rebacked with contemporary boards restored in half calf over marbled boards. Externally sound with shelf wear, boards chipped and bumped to extremities, rubbed. Internally, firmly bound.
