Through one of his sons he was the grandfather of the author Anna Letitia le Breton, who wrote poetry, essays, and children's books.Volume II includes John Aikin's essays on Spenser, Milton, Dryden, Pope, Cowper, and more. Written by Lucy Aikin, who also published under the pseudonym Mary Godolphin. Lucy was a historical writer, looking more into the secular and artistic aspects of her period, rather than the religious or military aspects. In the original paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Backstrips are a little worn, with some loss to the head and tail of the spines, articuary to the head of Volume I. Crack to the front joint of Volume I. A little wear to the spine labels. Minor bumping to the extremities. Some light marks to the boards. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age toned and clean with only the occasional scattered spot. Very Good .
