Commonly seen as just the first volume. Illustrated with a frontispiece.The New Testament.A trilingual work, the Latin in this volume is from the Vulgate Bible, French being a revision of the Port Royal version, and the Greek following the text of Curcellaeus. The Bible de Port-Royal New Testament was published in installments from 1657 to 1660, translated by Antoine le Maistre and Louis-Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy, Solitaires of Port-Royal. Their translation was the most widespread French Bible of the eighteenth century.Publisher is stated as 'Gaspard Migeot: Mons', however its generally attributed that books bearing that imprint are from the press of Daniel Elzevir at Amsterdam. In a full calf binding. Externally, front board is detached but present. Some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine, with some loss of leather to the spine, head of the front board, rear joint, and extremities. Aged repair to the head of the front board. Faint ring mark to the front board. Rear joint and hinge starting. Internally, generally firmly bound, gathering A is detaching. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean.
