Description: London, W. McDowall, 1813. Leather. A first edition of a popular military periodical bound into one volume. Compiling 6 monthly issues dating from November 1812 – April 1813, this work is a splendid mixture of military biography, military theory, progress of campaigns, correspondence, and more. Containing three folding plates and 6 beautiful frontispiece engravings to accompany title pages for each monthly chapter. Volume 5. 2 works in 1; rebound to include "The History of the Revolution in Portugal" to the rear, between pages 492 and 493.   Re-backed with calf leather to spine, straight grain Morocco to the boards. Gilt detailing to boards and spine. Light marking to the boards. Some light rubbing to the extremities and spine, particularly head and tail of the spine. Marbled detailing to pastedowns and endpapers and on extremities. Tidemark to frontispiece and recto. Internally, firmly bound. Some light age toning, particularly towards centre, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Folding maps between pages 200-201, 280-281, and 426-427, the former two with some edgewear. Worming to folding map between pages 200-201 and continuing to page 252. Good . Ill.: Cardon, Scriven & c. Good .
