The uncommon 1821 edition of this work. The original work was published in 1658, and it was both popular and influential within the Anglican tradition it helped define. An English high-church Protestant devotional work attributed to a number of people throughout history; published anonymously due to the politically dangerous position it represented at the time. The present edition was adapted to the times in which it was published. Containing faith and practice of a Christian, with devotions and tips for reading the scriptures. Illustrated with a beautiful engraving to frontispiece. Publisher's advertisements bound in to the front. Re-backed with spine cloth binding over full tree calf boards, new endpapers. Externally very smart with minor chipping to the extremities of the boards and a touch of rubbing to the spine. Frances Davies ink inscription to the title page. Internally, firmly bound.
