Imbert de Saint-Amand was a French diplomat and historian, prolific author of publications on the women of the court of Louis XIV, Louis XV, as well as Marie-Antoinette, Marie Louise, Empress Josephine, and others. The present volume is a first and only edition of this work, held institutionally by one library only, dated from Copac. A very scarce copy. The book tells of the 1814 campaign in north-east France in relation to Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, second wife of Napoleon and thus Empress of the French and Queen of Italy. Imbert follows the Empress' anguish and last days in France. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Translated from the French by Thomas Sergeant Perry. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping tot he head and tail of the spine and extremities, some darkening to the spine. Grace Sherson bookplate to the front pastedown.
