Following the story of Martha as a young woman in a Victorian society. Originally published in 1863, the present copy is a later impression of 1913. Scarce in every edition. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and other black and white illustrations in text. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Only minor cocking forward of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Odd faint spot to the fore edge, not affecting the leaves which are otherwise bright and clean. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and other black and white illustrations in text.
