 - A New Manual of Private Devotions, in Three Parts

Title: A New Manual of Private Devotions, in Three Parts
Description: London, Ginger, Rivington, Longman, et. al. 1810. Leather. A scarce, early nineteenth-century manual of daily Christian devotions and prayers, anonymously written. The twenty-fourth edition of this work, originally published in 1771. A fascinating manual of Christian daily devotions and prayers. This is the twenty-fourth edition of this work, though it was originally published in 1771. This manual is separated into three parts: (I) Prayers for Families and Private Persons, (II) Offices of Humiliation, For the Sick, and For Women with Child, and (III) An Office for the Holy Communion and Some Occasional Prayers. A revealing work about the prayers and devotions of early nineteenth-century Christians and Anglicans. Containing two previous owners' ink signatures to the front free-endpaper: 'Isabella Swiny' and 'For Sinclair Hood, 1919&apos. Also containing a handwritten devotion to one of the front free-endpapers, most likely written by Isabella Swiny as the handwriting is the same: 'Thou hast sinned to-day, defer not thy repentance till to-morrow. He who has promised pardon to thy repentance, hath not promised life till thou repent.'  Bound in half calf with paper covered boards. Externally, rubbing to the spine and extremities. Shelf wear and a few marks to the boards. Binding is lifting slightly to the head of the spine. Joints tender but firm. Internally front hinge is starting but firm. Rear hinge is tender but firm. Volume is firmly bound. A few instances of spotting and a few handling marks to the pages, but pages are generally clean, especially considering the age of the work. Good Only . Ill.: Not Stated.
