Description: Bristol, J W Arrowsmith, 1910. Cloth. The first printing in book form of this seventeenth century historical account of the city of Bristol by William Adams, Francis F. Fox's presentation copy. Antiquarian Francis Fox came in possession of William Adams's Chronicle of Bristol in 1907, and had it transcribed by Miss E. Salisbury, then published in the present volume as a limited edition by subscription. With notes and corrections. The present copy was inscribed by Fox ' 'Peter Burges,' signed and dated 1911. The original manuscript was initiated in circa 1623, the last date mentioned in 1648. It was of aid to Samuel Seyer to complete his work History of Bristol and its Neighbourhood.Illustrated with a frontispiece facsimile of the original manuscript, tissue guarded. Complete with half title.  From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos.  In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, with some minor marks to the front board and minor rubbing throughout. Inscribed 'Peter Burges Esq from his friend Francis F Fox,' dated 1911. With P Burges' bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting and light offsetting to the endpapers, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with a tissue guarded frontispiece facsimile of the original manuscript.
