Arranges alphabetically, these volumes present an account of the topography of England and Wales in the years preceding the publication of these work, and feature numerous illustrated maps depicting the course of the canals and railroads of the country.The publisher's preface remarks upon 'the value and practical utility' of ownership of 'a topographical dictionary of gazetteer of one's own country&apos.With four maps to volume I, four to volume II, four to volume III, three to volume IV, four to volume V, four to volume VI, three to volume VII, four to volume VIII, four to volume IX, four to volume X, four to volume XI, and five to XII. Five of these maps are folding, and the rest double page. Former owner's inscription to head of volume I title page, dated 1876. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to spine head and tail, with areas of discolouration to boards. Front joint of volume I starting, with board holding firm. Text block of volume III detached from binding. Former owner's inscription to head of volume I title page. Internally, firmly bound.
