The first edition of this reference work of 1876 by issued by Her Majesty's Stationery Office. A scarce copy of this work on military equitation of the British cavalry, with chapters on instructions of the recruit, single rides, double rides, the training of horses. In four parts: 'Instruction of the Cavalry Soldier on Foot,' 'Instruction of the Troop and Squadron Mounted,' 'Formation and Movements of the Regiment,' and 'Miscellaneous Subjects' including skirmishing, rear guards, duty on the Line of March. A charming work of reference outlining instructions for the training and movements of the British cavalry. Illustrated with numerous full page plates, numbered I-XVI and I-XLVIII, lacking plates IV of the second lot. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with some shelf wear and chipping, a touch of edge wear some minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. The boards and spine are slightly soiled, with a damp mark to the rear boar. Internally, the binding is tender, with the occasional plate loose but present. The pages very clean throughout with some age toning, as usual, and some pencil marginal annotation and underlining throughout. With a tide marking to the rear leaves, cockling the leaves slightly. Illustrated with numerous full page plates, numbered continuously I-XVI and I-XLVIII, lacking plates IV of the second lot.  Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
