He was awarded the Silver Polar Medal in 1909, and was due to join Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1914, but was deployed to Flanders instead.Illustrated with eight folding maps.A scarce collection of works regarding African geography as it was in the early twentieth century. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some general wear to the boards, a little bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Ownership bookplate, pencil inscription and stamp to the front pastedown and endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, bar a little straining at page 216. Pages are spotted to the edges. Very Good .
