Title: Review of the Apocrypha Controversy, Containing Supplementary Catechism Addressed to the London Committee; Strictures on the Case of Their Grant of Books to Dr Van Ess; and a Commentary on Their "Observations," Relative to the Expenditure
Description: London, William Whyte , 1826. First edition. Brochure/Pamphlet. A very scarce pamphlet regarding the Apocrypha controversy of the 1820s, the first edition. A very scarce pamphlet comprising a discussion on the Apocrypha controversy of the 1820s, extracted from The Christian Instructor for October 1826. The first edition. The Apocrypha controversy was a debate around the British and Foreign Bible Society and whether or not to include the Apocrypha in Bibles it printed for Christian missionary work, started in 1821 by Haldane and William Thorpe, who began a general campaign against all Bibles with the Apocrypha and their printing. The general argument was that by not printing the secondary material of Apocrypha within the Bible, the scriptures would prove to be less costly to produce. This historical pamphlet discusses the issue, opening in a manner of question and answer between the interviewer and a member of the London committee, and followed by a general essay outlining the costs and history, and a commentary on the observations made by the London committee. Disbound. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and edge wear. Internally, generally firmly bound, with pp. 3-6 loose but present. The pages are bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: None.
