Twenty three issues of a very scarce and copiously illustrated periodical from the late nineteenth century. A very scarce Birmingham based subscription only art and architecture periodical dating from the early 1890s, 'The Art Rambler' is illustrated throughout with engravings and woodcuts.Containing Volume I issues 1-6, Volume II issues 7-12, volume III issues 13-18, and volume IV issues 19-22, and 24. With 23 issues in total, dating from between 1890 and 1892, with volumes I and II published by the Herald Press, and volumes III and IV by the Birmingham Industrial Arts Club.With illustrated articles in facsimile handwriting on such subjects as 'The Study of Ancient Buildings', 'The Love of Nature is the True Incentive to Landscape Art', and 'Ferns and the Microscope&apos.With contributions from renowned British scholar, artist, art critic, historian and archaeologist Percy Brown, painter, embroiderer, teacher, book illustrator and stained glass designer associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement Mary Jane Newill, and numerous other individuals including Maggie Harrison, Stanley Thompson and Irene Payne.With illustrated contemporary advertisements to the verso of front wrap and recto of rear wrap to the majority of issues, these advertisements would be well targeted to readers of the publication, often for art supplies or books on or by famous artists.These issues are held within a custom made hand embroidered case bearing the name Ether Isabel Cook. A portrait artist living c1871-1941, Cook attended the Birmingham School of Art and exhibited some of her works in the city. In the publisher's original paper wraps, these volumes are held within a custom made hand embroidered cloth case. Some water marks and fraying to the cloth, with stitching between front and rear boards detached. The publisher's wraps are detached but present to two issue. There are some absences to wrap perimeters to a few further issues. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean and bright. Very Good . Ill.: Various. Very Good .
