When Sarah started seeing other men, Hazlitt recorded his woeful tale in this volume in an attempt to find a cathartic outlet for his misery. It was published anonymously but quickly recognised as Hazlitt's work. This is a truthful memoir recalling the story of his turmoiled emotions, reflecting the intensity of his feelings with raw and at times odd and vulgar language.  Illustrated with a vignette title page.  In the original publisher's binding with green paper covered boards, lacking the spine label. Externally smart with some shelf wear and some minor spotting to the spine, which is slightly sunned. Internally, firmly bound. With evidence of cancels at D1 and G8 as recorded by Keynes; in this volume, the register is irregular however pagination is linear and continuous. The textual differences are not explained. With a minor faint scattered spotting throughout, particularly to the endpaper. With some offsetting to the title page and last leaf.
