An attractive copy of the Book of Common Prayer, from King George IV's long-since demolished King's Chapel at the Pavilion, Brighton. In a full straight grain morocco binding with the gilt embossed monogram and crown of King George IV to the boards.The King's Chapel at the Pavilion, Brighton, was consecrated in 1822The chapel was in the south side of the complex, being demolished after the 1860s, after Brighton town bought the Pavilion from Queen Victoria in 1850. Victoria sold the Pavilion in order to pay for work needed on Buckingham Palace.Brighton's Royal Pavilion is a former royal residence, beginning building in 1787 for George, who was then the Prince of Wales. It is noted for its Indo-Saracenic style.A Georgian edition of the Common Prayer, here together with the Psalms of David.Bookplate of the Bishop of Norwich to the front paste down, a pencil dated of 1837. This Bishop is either Henry Bathurst, who died in the position in 1837, or Edward Stanley, who subsequently took over. In a full straight grain morocco binding, with gilt embossed monogram and crown to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spines. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Small cracks to the joints. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with a few odd spots. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
