A scarce edition of William Harrison Ainsworth's novel 'Rookwood' detailing the adventures of Dick Turpin, complete with an even scarcer dust wrapper. 'Rookwood' is an historical romance, following the dispute over the claim for the inheritance of Rookwood Place and featuring English highwayman Dick Turpin (1705-1739). Turpin was executed for horse theft, and was afterwards heavily romanticised as a legend in English ballads and theatre.William Harrison Ainsworth (1805-1882) was an English historical novelist. This was his first successful work, published in 1834, and he subsequently published thirty-nine more novels, including 'Jack Sheppard', 'Guy Fawkes', 'The Lancashire Witches' and 'Windsor Castle&apos.A scarce later edition of this work published by Herbert Jenkins.Undated; dated from the publisher's activity.Complete with a smart dust wrapper. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart, with just a little general wear. Dust wrapper has tape repairs to the head and tail of the spine, which is a little sunned, but is otherwise in excellent condition. Personal library bookplate to the front pastedown.
