In 1991 Leningrad was changed back to St. Petersburg. In 1941, the Siege of Leningrad began and would last three years. It was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history and overwhelmingly the most costly in terms of casualties.The city depicted in the photographs is of a calm, prosperous time in Russia's past, with numerous impressive building and wide streets. In a cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor marks to boards and bumping to corners and head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few odd handling marks.
