Complete as three volumes bound in one.In the original French.Collated from Jisc from copies held at the University of Oxford Libraries and Ushaw College.One collective title page, printed in red and black, and three additional tile pages for the separate parts. Additional title page for 'Ordonnance de Monseigneur l'Illustrissieme & Reverendissime Hardovin de Perefixe&apos.The imprint on the title page is fictitious, and the work was actually printed in Paris.A detailed Catholic work on the New Testament, contemplating and defending the Bible de Port-Royal, a French translation of the Catholic Bible that was published in instalments in 1667 to 1696.The work also discusses Pope Alexander VII, who died two years before this work was published, and Jansenism, the theological movement in Catholicsm, that was popular in France when this work was written. In a full calf binding. Externally, sound. Cracks to the joints, and a joint to the spine. Some loss to the head and tail of the spine. A little bumping to the extremities. Lacking the spine label. Some marks and discolouration to the boards and spine. A small amount of loss to the rear board. Hinges are strained. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the binding broken in one place. Pages are age-toned with some spots and marks. Small closed tear to the margin of the third leaf of the work, no loss.
