In English and Latin, with separate title pages and paginations to the English and Latin parts. The first edition of the Latin part of the text, and the second edition of the English Part. The English part of the text with the very scarce frontispiece, depicting a woman getting ready for the ball. ESTC citation number T32475. Collated, complete. The Latin part of the work with a vignette engraving to the title page, and five in-text engravings. ESTC citation number T2630. Collated, complete. Disbound. The poem was originally written and published in Latin, and was translated and published into English in the same year. 'An Election Ball' is a burlesque poem about the Bath society of the eighteenth century. The English part of the text is written in a Somerset dialect. The poem's theme had been suggested to him at the literary gatherings of the Batheaston Literary Circle. Written by Christopher Anstey, an English poet, who is known for also writing in Latin. He is well known for his poem 'The New Bath Guide', and for his public life in Bath, which inspired his satirical poems. Illustrated by Coplestone Warre Bampfylde, a garden designer and artist. Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are lightly age-toned, with only a few marks, marks a little heavier to the Latin part. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with the odd spot and odd mark. Frontispiece is lifting to the head, with two closed tears. Prior owner's ink inscription to the tail of page 36 of the English part. Small repair to the reverse of the title page to the Latin part, and a small prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page.
