'The Pleasures of Imagination' is a long didactic poem. The poem discusses the power of imagination, and how pleasure can be derived from the perception of beauty, how imagination is distinguished from philosophy, and also the pleasure to be found in the study of man. The poem was inspired by Joseph Addison's essays on imagination published in 'The Spectator&apos. Written by Mark Akenside, an English poet, who had the idea from the poem on a 1738 visit to Morpeth. Disbound, with a leather backstrip still present. Externally, the outer leaves with some spotting. Blind stamp to the front outer leaf. Internally, firmly bound.
