This is a quarto work, with detailed woodcut lettering to the start of passages and to the head and tail of chapters. With a fruitful exhortation to the reading of holy scripture and sermons on the salvation of mankind, Good Works, Christian love and charity, declining from god, against whoredom and adultery and several more. To the rear of the work there is 'A thanksgiving for the suppression of the last rebellion&apos. The majority of this work is in blackletter, with prefatory notices and the thanksgiving to the rear in a serif typeface. This collection of sermons was first published in 1562 according to the preface. They are presented here in a bright and clear format. With 'The Second Tome of Homilies' separated by a second title page, though the register and pagination are continuous. In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally, rubbed to the extremities and to the spine. Rear joint is split with the hinge starting but firm. Front board is detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Tidemark to the bottom third of the first twenty pages to the gutter. Tidemark is heavier to the title page. Occasional scattered spots to pages. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
