'L'Espagne' is a very scarce work in the series of 'Album Pittoresque' presented by A Laplace of Paris. The first and only edition of this work. Undated, dated using Worldcat entries for the other works of this series. 'L'Espagne' is one of many works in a series of bound engraved plates issued by A Laplace of Paris. Other works in this series includes 'L'Amerique', 'La Hollande, La Belgique et Le Rhin', 'L'Allemagne' and 'La France&apos. With forty plates total, including eleven that have been beautifully half-coloured. All have been printed on thick paper and are interleaved. The plates to this work are by several illustrators including F Chardon, Ed Willmann and Rouargue. The majority of the plates have been engraved by Rouargue Freres, an important engraver of the mid nineteenth century. A beautiful collection of works depicting Spain. In the publisher's original quarter morocco binding. Externally, smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spine in addition to the raised bands. Small patches of damp staining to the boards.
