The first edition of this work. A playbill for the 1987-1988 English National Opera production of 'Orpheus in the Underworld&apos. Illustrated throughout by Gerald Scarfe, who designed the sets and costumes for this production. With an interesting history on the opera, which was first performed in two acts in 1858, and in four acts in 1874. The music for the comic opera was written by Jacques Offenbach, and the words by Hector Cremieux and Ludovic Halevy. The opera is a parody of the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. Scarfe is a cartoonist who is best known for his contributions to 'The Sunday Times', and 'The New Yorker&apos. He was also the production designed for the 1997 Disney 'Hercules&apos. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
