These volumes offer a comprehensive look at the history of Cambridge, England. The city is known for being a university city, home to one of the most affluent universities in the country. The work offers an interesting look at the historical monuments of the city and its colleges. Volume I with a frontispiece, one-hundred and ninety-seven plates, two of which are coloured, and eight folding plates, one of which is coloured. Volume II with a frontispiece, one-hundred and thirteen plates, and six folding plates. Volume I with a slip taped to the verso to the front endpaper, about a prize exercise and medal presentation from Cambridge University on Saturday 11th June 1960, with an ink inscription to the head saying 'Mama attended!&apos. Newspaper slip showing a portrait of Professor Herbert Butterfield tipped in to the recto to the rear endpaper with a pencil inscription to beneath. Commemoration of Benefactors invitation tipped into the verso to the rear endpaper, dated 7th June 1949. Letter certifying John Michael Woolley's degree of Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge tipped in to the rear pastedown. Volume II with the prior owner's pencil inscription to the folding plate facing page 158, noting the placement of the prior owner's room in Peterhouse. Two obitures taped to the recto to the rear endpaper, for Mr D. H. Beves and Camille Prior. Typed letter from Noel Provost to Michael Woolley about the death of Donald Beves, written on 15th July 1961 with Provost's Lodge King's College Cambridge letterhead. Typed letter tipped into the verso to the rear endpaper from J. C. Bunkill to Michael Woolley dated 20th December 1945, about his election to an Entrance Exhibition. Typed letter taped to the rear pastedown from C. Raven dated 19th November 1948, showing a summary of a report send to the Tutors of Colleges, noting a series of disturbances performed by undergraduates in what is described as a display of hooliganism. In the original publisher's cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Discolouration to the dustwrappers, mostly to the spines and extremities. Very minor edgewear to the dustwrappers. Very light marking to the wraps.Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto to the front endpaper of Volume I, 'J. M. Woolley May 1960&apos.
