With 118 illustrations total. Collated, complete. There is no author stated to this work, though it has been attributed to the nineteenth century writer and journalist, William Henry Davenport Adams. Adams was the grandson of Captain Adams of the Royal Navy and wrote numerous natural history works. This work discusses a wide-range of topics regarding the Arctic including various routes between the Atalntic and Pacific Oceans, the formation of icebergs, lichen, vgetable life, Eskimos, Samojedes and more. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, rubbed to the extremities, spine and joints. Small loss to the joints due to rubbing as well as to the head and tail of spine. Patches of rubbing to the boards and extremities. Both hinges are tender. Gift inscriptions to the verso of front endpaper, 'William McDougall esq With William Nelson's Best Regards' and 'To Willie Johnson from his Companion William McDougall aged 84 with his dying good wishes for Willie's success and happiness all his life&apos.
