Title: The Lives of the Lord Chancellors and Keepers of the Great Seal of England from the Earliest Times. (Complete in 7 Volumes) + the Lives of the Chief Justices of England (Complete in 4 Volumes) - Eleven (11) Vols. in all
Description: London, Murray, 1846 and 1847 + NY, George W. Smith, 1875. 1875. Soft cover . Hardbacks, octavo, appx 6x9 inches, cloth bindings. LORD CHANCELLORS: Series I and II (Vols 1 thru 5) are dated 1846, Series III (Vols 6 and 7) dated 1847. These are uniform in gilt and decoratively embossed blue-green cloth. Volume I has a gift inscription on FFEP (names difficult to make out) dated New York, Jan. 1st, 1848: "Mr. Bradley sends Mr. Daley (Lakey?) the compliments of the New Year, & begs him to accept the these volumes as a small proof of the esteem entertained by Mr. B. for Mr. D. personally; & of Mr. B's remembrance of numerous signal acts of kindness for which Mr. B. is under obligation to Mr. D." These 7 volumes are not in good condition. One or two might be termed Good, the rest would be graded lower. Some loose pages, split spines, use of black electricians tape on a couple of the spines as well as some of the interior hinges. CHIEF JUSTICES (Revised Edition, Complete in 4 volumes): Overall condition Near VG. These are gilt, black and decoratively embossed on brown cloth (beveled boards). There are a couple of loose signatures and a few short tears with cellophane tape repairs. The spine-ends show a bit of rubbing while the corners are rubbed or scuffed through, still rather minor but one. Spines quite nice, external surfaces quite nice, brown end-papers pretty much very nice. Tissue-guards all seem to be present. Hinges ok except front hinge of Volume 4 split through. Bookshop stamp Vol 4 front pastedown: Claitor's Law Books, Baton Rouge. Fair.
