Title: The Pointer and His Predecessors - An Illustrated History of the Pointing Dog from the Earliest Times
Description: Glenlivet, Scotland, The Argue Sporting Agency, 1977.. Hardcover with dust jacket. Hardback, octavo, VG+ in Very Near Fine dj (dj fitted w/ protective mylar sleeve). Mostly a wonderful copy incl the printed tissues over the plates in this reprint of the 1906 2nd edition. Previous owner had carefully folded flexible stiff plastic around the dustjacket and had carefully taped it into place. The plastic was taped only to plastic, not to the inside covers. The tape did not brown in the least, but there were adhesive remnants that had to be removed w/ solvent. Adhesive removal went quite well for the most part but there are a few spots & a few tape outlines that "appear" as light graying, though which seem to actually be translucence and not discoloration. The translucence does not appear on the f&b pastedowns, but only on each free endpaper (and which is visible on either side of each free endpaper). There also had been a small 2-line pencil notation on the ffep ("Purchased 3-3-1980") which had some adhesive running through it. This notation was lightened but slightly smeared by the use of the solvent, and it now seems resistant to erasing. In his 1977 Publisher's Note Derry G. Argue indicates that the textual contents are complete in this reprint edition, but that only 8 of the illustrations were reproduced (now scattered throughout the book), while the original Illustrations page (listing 22) still appears following the Contents page. Book's weight is approaching 2 pounds, so safe packaging might require additional shipping charges for Priority or International. Very Good/Near Fine.
