Description: NY, American Book Exchange, 1881. 1881. Hardcover . Hardback set, 18mo, appx 4 3/4 x 6 3/8 inches (12.3 x 16.3 cm), gilt on brown cloth, pp 788 + 844 + 848 + 875, Good only. Both gilt and spine cloth darkened. Exterior surfaces and corners rubbed a little worse than minor + spine ends rubbed and fraying (most are obviating just a little bit of loss). Edges of text block are browned. Three of the eight hinges have been repaired/reinforced. Interiors aren't too bad. Previous owner name (vintage script) in black ink front pastedown of vol 2 + title page vol 1 (a little ragged at the fore-edge) had been loose, now reaffixed. Despite pretty small type, text throughout is pretty readable (generally clean/not yellowed/not brittle). Title pages state: In Four Volumes. Index in vol 4 only. Good.
