Title: SUCH SWEET COMPULSION (Inscribed, Signed Copy + 2 photos laid-in, one inscribed and signed on the back)
Description: NY, Greystone Press, 1938. 1938, 1st Edition. Hardcover . Stated First Impression. Hardback, tall octavo, appx 6 1/4 x 9 3/8 inches, magenta titles and design element on purple cloth, Near VG/no dj. Not much wear to corners or head of spine, but cloth at heel of spine rubbed through with a little bit of fraying and loss. Spine cloth faded from purple to a very light purplish gray. FFEP Inscription SIGNED by Farrar: "To Wilson L. Powell - In Remembrance of a Golden Era, Geraldine Farrrar, 1938" [if I'm reading the inscribee's name right]. Two real photos laid-in (I'd call them matte finish, not glossy), one close-up portrait nearly 5x8 inches of Farrar in a fur + one not quite 4x6 inches, the singer a little younger in appearance inscribed and SIGNED on the back: "Best holiday wishes and all fond things for 1940's arrival! - Geraldine Farrar." Note that both signatures (in the book and on the back of the photo) seem to be signed with an abbreviation of Geraldine, either (1) from some abbreviation of the name, such as when Wm. is used for William or (2) perhaps in using a nick-name, as it appears that something like "Gina" or "Geri" has been signed in each case. Photos and the book's interior generally very nice, excepting paper-clip impressions at top corners of larger photo (affecting only background image) + paper-clip impressions top corners of frontis and title page + paper-clip impression centered at the top of the smaller signed photo with minor effects in Farrar's hair only (not affecting face or forehead). Very Good. Signed by Author.
