Description: London (?), Gentleman's Magazine (?), 1776 (?). 1776. Soft cover . Vintage map, very nicely framed. Originally printed in black only, with the color I'm assuming to have been added by a local Twin Cities artisan whose work I happen to have noticed at an antique show on one occasion a number of years ago. Hopefully not a complete tragedy as far as this particular map is concerned. The work is nicely done, and the creation very appealing. A few letters or map features here and there have been coated over, though generally not entirely covered or "obliterated," since with the aid of a magnifier most of the smallest details can still be made out through what might be a water-based paint. It appears that at least 5 or 6 different colors were used. Map image is appx 6 7/8 x 8 9/16 inches. Frame measures appx 14 3/4 x 15 7/8 inches. Legend shows distances in British Statute Miles. Parts of northwest Maryland and northern Delaware are shown + Chesopeak [Chesapeake] Bay & Delaware Bay. Annapolis, Maryland and Dover, Delaware appear. Five towns in Connecticut are indicated: Greenwich, Stanford [Stamford], Norwalk, Fairfield and Stratford. Shipping charges will have to be adjusted for this item. Very Good.
