Book decent enough (G+) in general overall condition, but is missing one of the 4 illustrations (glossy plates) + a one-inch corner within torn free and laid-in (type not affected). Seems to be very scarce as the first book of this popular author who was born, raised and educated in Maine (Berwick Academy and Bates College). Cockatoo graphic appears on both spine (very small) and on front cover. Binding sound, hinges intact. Christmas 1929 gift inscription to FFEP. Light staining and light bumps to covers, light wear to extremities + just slight amount of yellowing to spine. Good.
