Stamp on title, occasional staining, more seriously in final 10 Index leaves. Seal of the Jesuit Company. * Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria. He refused to compromise with Arianism and was exiled to Trier in 336, returning in 337 after Constantine's death, fleeing again to Rome in 339. His problems continued under Constantius and Julian. As a bishop he was the greatest and most consistent theological opponent of Arianism.
