His birth city, Montepulciano, will be well known to wine drinkers. The preface or introduction is a short biography of the life and writings of Poliziano by Gerardus Vossius (1577 - 1649), the Dutch scholar and theologian. Poliziano began preparing his correspondence for publication before he died, and the first edition of the correspondence was prepared and published by Aldus Manutius in 1498.
