A very good copy. Henri Louis Choquel (1702 - 1767) published the first edition of this work in 1759, and this second edition has a new preface. "In 1762...Choquel...described his new invention, a pendulum-metronome, and its uses in La Musique Rendue Sensible par la Mechanique; Choquel emphasized that the instrument was created to fulfill an important function, namely,',,, to learn to beat time with the precision it demands.' Choquel's time-beating procedures were identical to those of his contemporaries Montéclair, Dupont, and Démotz; he was in addition the first to advocate the use of a mechanical device to enable a student to learn to trace gestures precisely... Choquel's instrument was the earliest mechanical device to correlate time-beatiings physically with musical activity" (Elliott W.
