Description: Olisipone [Lisbon] Ex Typographia Nationalii 1839. ?FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo, 162 x 100 mms. pp. 68, [2], 3 - 8, attractively bound in full red morocco with with gilt floral borders panelled gilt decorations with the central panel, spine rolled in gilt, marbled end-papers, all edges gilt; front hinge very slightly cracked before title-page, some very slight wear to binding, corners very slightly crushed, library stamp on title-page, with contemporary inscription and woodcut ornament; a very good to fine copy. Vincentii Ferrerii or Vicent Ferrer (1350 - 1419) was a Valencian Dominican Friar was canonized by Pope Calixtus III on 3 June 1455. He attended the University of Lleida, from which he received a doctorate in theology. He is said to have visited England during his missionary work. The previously-schismatic Fraternity of Saint Vincent Ferrer, a pontifical religious institute founded in 1979, is named after him. No copy traced in available online databases, e. g., WorldCat and Copac, but there is copy on the Biblioteca Naciional de Portugal of a copy printed in 1857. Uncommon.
