FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. 12mo (in 6s), 154 x 95 mms., pp. 225 [226 blank]. contemporary sheepskin (worn); margins of title-page and next three leaves frayed and worm, text slightly brown, joints rubbed, top and base of spine chipped, corners word. Gillies (1712 - 1796) was a Church of Scotland minister, who nevertheless invited the Methodists George Whitefield and John Wesley to preach in his church. Wesley remarked, "Who would have believed, five and twenty years ago, either that the minister would have desired it or that I should have consented to preach in a Scotch kirk."
