Description: London: Printed for A. Moore, near St. James, 1726. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. 8vo (in 4s), pp. [ii], xii, 83 [84 Errata], including half-title, disbound; tear in lower right hand corner removing "ames" (of "James") from imprint as well as date of 1726. The author of the "discourse" mentioned on the title-page is Anthony Collins (1676–1729) and is one of many replies to his of the Grounds and Reasons of the Christian Religion (1724), in which he argued that Jesus was not the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. The imprint is false; see the article by M. Treadwell, "Of False and Misleading Imprints" in Fakes and Frauds: Varieties of Deception in Print and Manuscript, ed. Robin Myers and Michael Harris (1989), pp. 41 - 43. Uncommon: ESTC N20214 locates copies only in Harvard and the Boston Athenaeum; no copy traced in Copac.
